Full‑time Dental Assistant position located at VA Boston Healthcare System – Jamaica Plain, 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

United States Citizenship (non‑citizens only when no qualified citizens can be recruited).

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Minimum six months of dental assistant experience *or* successful completion of a one‑year accredited dental assistant program.

Certification or credentialing in radiologic procedures (e.g., Dental Radiation Health & Safety Examination, or equivalent). Radiologic competence is required before full employment.

Dental Assistant National Board (DANB) certification highly desirable; required for positions above full performance level.

Basic life support certification desirable.

Leadership and supervisory duties limited to facilities where a lead or supervisory dental assistant is present.

Duties

Assist the dentist in direct patient care, including general dental procedures and specialty procedures such as oral surgery, endodontics, and periodontal therapy.

Prepare operatory and/or surgery suite, clean dental unit for timely turnover.

Set up and operate diagnostic imaging equipment, capture high‑quality images (traditional or digital).

Monitor and record vital signs; provide patient education and referrals as necessary.

Maintain infection control standards, prepare instruments for sterilization, and manage instrument collection.

Document patient findings, treatment plans, and procedures in electronic records; maintain HIPAA confidentiality.

Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of dental equipment.

Assist in laboratory procedures, including impression taking, pouring, trimming, and model fabrication.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
