
Sterile Processing Technician - PSS Equipment and Technology, Full-time, Evening

Salary: $24.26 - $24.26 per hour (includes $0.97/hour shift differential). Overtime is available as the position is non‑exempt.
Description
Hours: 40 hours per week
Evening Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (works every other weekend and every holiday)
Responsibilities
Works under indirect supervision of the Resource Coordinator and Manager to support Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Follows the preference sheet to accurately dispense instruments and supplies to surgery and patient care areas.
Requires daily flexibility to perform tasks, knowledge of routine policies and procedures and adherence to safety and infection control standards.
Demonstrates knowledge and use of the Tray Tracking computer system in designated areas of the department.
Reports and isolates damaged and missing items to Resource Coordinator and Manager.
Performs quality assurance and biological testing on equipment and documents results.
Maintains logs, prepares checks and records test results; approves or refuses materials from the sterilizer based on test outcomes and reports adverse results to management.
Executes proper procedures for equipment malfunctions.
Prepares and delivers accurate and timely case carts for use in surgical procedures.
Responds to instrument and supply requests from customers in a timely manner.
Maintains a friendly, clean and orderly work environment.
Checks and reprocesses expired items.
Accurately prepares and labels items for the appropriate method of sterilization.
Maintains a working knowledge of all department areas by rotating through assigned work areas to meet customer service needs.
Completes work from the previous shift to accommodate department schedules.
Dispenses and delivers materials via dumbwaiter, tube system, elevator and/or handcarts.
Communicates issues, problems and concerns to management promptly.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Basic computer skills.
Physical demands requirement:
Lift/carry up to 35 pounds and push/pull force up to 50 pounds.
Preferred
Certification desired within 18 months.
Knowledge of aseptic and sterilization techniques, infection control, workflow principles and requirements, and instrument and supply processing; demonstrates responsible judgment to provide necessary supplies and instruments to patient care areas.
