Introduction
DNREC is now offering sign‑on bonuses for engineers! The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control recognizes its engineers as a highly valued resource and vital to protecting public health and the environment. For that reason, we are providing monetary recruitment incentives to new DNREC engineers in accordance with our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.
$4,000 for Engineer I
$5,000 for Engineer II
$6,000 for Engineer III
$7,000 for Engineer IV
Incentives are paid in two installments: one after three months of employment and the second after eighteen months. New employees accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DNREC in the Engineer I–IV series and must be a new hire to the State of Delaware or new to the engineer classification series within the State of Delaware.
Summary Statement
This position includes permitting and compliance work for minor and major facilities in the State of Delaware. Air permits authorize the construction and operation of equipment at facilities. Compliance work ensures that businesses operate in accordance with federal and state regulations and in a responsible manner that protects the air quality of Delaware.

Upon satisfactory completion of departmental promotional standards and job requirements, employees may be eligible to be promoted to the next level.
Essential Functions
Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications.
Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations.
Applies principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems.
Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations.
Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities.
Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance.
Develops cost estimates for project time and materials.
Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.
Job Requirements
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competency in each of the following areas. Possession of a bachelor's degree or higher (or an anticipated graduation date within 9 months) in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination in one of those disciplines administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
