Summary

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of trucks, trailers, forklifts, pickups, and other heavy‑duty commercial equipment. This role supports a rental operation, so the mechanic plays an essential part in checking units in and out, preparing equipment for rental, completing preventive maintenance, and handling repairs quickly and safely. The ideal candidate is punctual, mechanically inclined, able to work independently, and comfortable being on call when needed.
Essential Duties

Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on vacuum trucks, roll‑off trucks, commercial vehicles, pickups, trailers, forklifts, and related heavy‑duty equipment
Check trucks and equipment in and out to ensure they are safe, clean, functional, and ready for rental
Complete routine maintenance and service work on diesel engines and other key mechanical systems
Diagnose and repair issues involving hydraulics, 12‑volt electrical systems, and other core operating systems
Troubleshoot equipment problems using schematics, manuals, and hands‑on mechanical knowledge
Assemble and disassemble components for repair or replacement
Perform wash‑down and general preparation of equipment inside and out as needed
Maintain accurate records of maintenance performed, repairs completed, and parts used
Respond to on‑call needs, including truck returns, breakdowns, and after‑hours service situations
Work closely with branch leadership and team members to keep equipment operational and customer‑ready
Follow all company safety procedures and perform other duties as assigned
What Success Looks Like

In the first 90 days, success in this role means becoming a dependable and productive member of the shop team who can work independently, stay busy without constant direction, and confidently handle day‑to‑day maintenance and repair needs.
Qualifications

1–2 years of mechanic experience preferred, ideally with diesel engines, commercial vehicles, or heavy‑duty equipment
Mechanical aptitude and hands‑on repair experience required
Experience with diesel systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, and general diagnostics strongly preferred
Must own or have access to own tools
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively throughout the day
Must be dependable, punctual, and willing to participate in on‑call responsibilities
CDL is not required, but it is a strong plus
Welding experience, schematic reading, and troubleshooting ability are a plus
Candidates with backgrounds in dealerships, repair shops, rental companies, or contractor fleets are encouraged to apply
Teachable, coachable candidates with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn will be considered
Compensation and Schedule

Hourly pay range: $17.00 to $27.00 per hour, depending on experience
Full‑time hourly position
Minimum of 40 hours per week
Overtime opportunities available
On‑call work includes additional paid time, typically 2–3 hours per call‑out
Travel required: approximately 5%
