Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

18 years of age or above.

Certificate from college or technical school preferred but not required.

Possess and maintain Oklahoma Department of Health EMT Certification.

Possess and maintain National Registry EMT Certification.

Possess and maintain current Oklahoma motor vehicle operator’s license and be within company guidelines with no more than two moving violations in the past three years.

Possess and maintain all certifications required by the Medical Control Board and EMSA.

These certifications include the following:
CPR credentials (as defined by the American Heart Association)
Hazardous Materials (first responder level)

Essential Functions of the Position

Conduct oneself in an ethical, professional manner; project a positive image.

Follow directions of Clinical Services/Field Operations Supervisors, System Status Controllers, Operations, and Director of Operations.

Collaborate with physicians, nurses, public safety agencies, the public, and other allied healthcare professionals as needed.

Adhere to documented clinical standards and performance criteria as set by the medical director.

Adhere to all probationary recommendations, remedial training recommendations, and suggestions for improvement of patient care and job standards.

Achieve and maintain high levels of patient care and clinical performance by meeting continuing education requirements and maintaining job performance skills through education and practice.

Follow medical care practices documented in EMSA medical protocols and as mandated by the Medical Control Board and the Oklahoma Department of Health.

Be responsible for overall care and safe transportation of patients assigned by the System Status Controller.

Be responsible for safe transport of patients to and from ambulance, including lifting and maneuvering patients past obstacles.

When assigned as an Emergency Vehicle Operator, always be responsible for and in control of the assigned ambulance in accordance with company policy.

Maintain care, use, and appearance of assigned ambulance and equipment; keep a complete, accurate documented inventory.

Report to assigned shift in a timely fashion according to company policy.

Be physically and mentally ready to respond to calls in time periods as dictated by company policy.

Immediately report malfunctions and/or damage to equipment or ambulances; submit written reports.

Report injuries sustained to self, co‑workers, or patients to appropriate authority and follow up as per company policy.

Follow guidelines and standards set by OSHA and EMSA Infection Control policies and procedures.

Support and implement policies, protocols, SOPs, philosophies, or other directives from EMSA or regulatory agencies.

Conform to dress code and personal hygiene standards.

Adhere to EMSA’s Vehicle Assignment and Use Policy.

Punctuality and regular, predictable, reliable, consistent attendance are essential. Other essential functions include professionalism, the ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing), maintaining confidentiality, exercising sound judgment, being adaptable and flexible, following safety and compliance protocols, being accountable, complying with the Code of Conduct, organizational policies, procedures, practices, and expectations, and performing the core duties of the position either with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Effective communication skills with EMS personnel, dispatch, management, allied emergency personnel, and hospital staff.

Demonstrate effective communication with healthcare professionals, law enforcement, first responder organizations, fire department personnel, and the public, either formally, informally, or through educational or public relations endeavors.

Strong English grammar, spelling, and usage; read and interpret safety, operating, and maintenance documents; draft routine reports and correspondence.

Speak effectively before groups of customers or team members of other organizations.

Ability to work varying shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and personnel information; maintain composure and tact in stressful situations.

Demonstrate compassion with a sincere dedication to patient needs and concerns.

Continue EMS education as required by company policy.

Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Apply common-sense understanding to conduct instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Supervisory Responsibilities
No direct supervisory responsibilities but will manage projects and activities in a high stress environment.

Physical Demands

Lift in conjunction with the partner or assist in moving and/or balancing up to 350 pounds.

Vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; speak and hear.

Sit, stand, and walk.

Maintain physical condition to enable proper performance of assigned job functions as determined by company policy.

Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Work Environment

Operate EMS vehicles.

Assist others operating EMS vehicles to arrive at location in a safe and timely manner.

Frequently work in outside weather conditions.

Exposure to fluctuating or extreme temperatures, low and high, including humidity.

Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat.

Work independently, think and act properly in emergencies, and establish effective working relationships with staff, professionals, and the public.

Work in high-stress environment.
