QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Graduate of an approved education program providing the required credentials listed in the Certifications, Licenses and Registrations section.
EXPERIENCE
Four years as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, including at least two years in a critical care setting (preferably at HMCCH). Employees with at least three years of RCP experience, including one year as a HMC RCP, may also be considered.
Neonatal experience is preferred.

RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC), National Board for Respiratory Care (PSV)
BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA), American Heart Association
ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA), American Heart Association
NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation or Instructor (AHA, AAP), within 90 days.

SERVICE
Provides patient teaching based on learning needs, using appropriate resources and planning for post‑discharge care.
Serves as the primary therapist for advanced treatments, including but not limited to intubation, advanced pulmonary diagnostics, endobronchial ultrasound, electromagnetic navigation, ECMO, and other assigned procedures.
Coordinates activities within the respiratory department and assumes additional duties in the absence of a team lead or coordinator. Serves as a resource for department‑related needs, such as specialty equipment or software implementation.
Helps drive improvement of the department’s patient satisfaction score through peer‑to‑peer accountability for service standards.
QUALITY/SAFETY
Provides direct assistance to physicians, performing tests as ordered, assessing and ensuring quality, acceptability, and reliability of results; initiates corrective action and engages others as needed.
Troubleshoots, calibrates, and performs preventive maintenance and quality control on all equipment and analyzers per guidelines, documenting activities. Assembles, prepares, cleans, and operates bronchoscopy equipment, monitoring equipment, and accessories in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and department guidelines. Reports malfunctions.
Utilizes clinical judgment and analytical approach. Assists with implementation and teaching of department‑based safety initiatives and standards of practice. Identifies trends and opportunities for corrective action and process improvement, providing recommendations. Contributes to meeting department and hospital targets for quality and patient safety.
FINANCE
Accurately documents all patient care and respiratory‑related activities and procedures in the appropriate documentation system. Enters charges at the time services are delivered.
Uses resources efficiently; avoids waste of supplies. Self‑motivated to manage time independently, minimizing incidental overtime, and prioritizing daily tasks to optimize efficiency and compliance with department specifications.
GROWTH/INNOVATION
Identifies and presents opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and improvement for department projects and shared governance activities. Participates in one or more department committees or subcommittees, facilitating accomplishment of committee goals.
