Job Responsibilities

Provides oversight and makes decisions related to patient flow, directing and coordinating bed control, including all admissions and transfers within the hospital and parallel processing of EVS and transport operations related to patient flow.

Oversees the coordination, triage, registration, and communication of transfer and consultation requests, determining the best course of action for the patient, physician, and hospital through working with a multi‑disciplinary team.

Job Duties

Provides clinical oversight and critical thinking through the daily patient flow and bed placement decisions.

Supports the hospital's administration, management, and nursing staff in achieving organizational goals set to provide patient‑centered care while maintaining the organization's strategic plan.

Facilitates professional relationships between leadership, medical staff, and interdisciplinary teams to provide patient room assignments based on patient diagnosis, acuity, and patient flow.

Evaluates and facilitates staffing needs in collaboration with the nursing units, utilizing resources for capacity surge and patient flow escalation plans.

Completes accurate data collection, monitoring, and evaluation.

Completes rounds and supervises day‑to‑day operations of the nursing units.

Participates in semi‑annual telemedicine, business development, and hospital outreach activities.

Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

Performs other related duties as required.

Education

Required – Associate’s degree in nursing, science or related field.

Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Work Experience

Required – 3 years of clinical experience.

Preferred – Supervisory experience or transfer/call center experience.

Certifications

Required – Registered nurse (RN) licensure in state of practice.

Preferred – Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Preferred – Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association.

Preferred – Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.

Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications, including SharePoint, Microsoft Excel, and Word.

Ability to maintain professional and technical knowledge and required licensure and certifications through continuous education and professional development.

Physical and Environmental Demands
Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area, works in an area where patients enter, and/or works directly with patients, and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
