The Environmental Scientist is a key role, responsible for conducting research, assessments, and implementing strategies to conserve the environment and promote sustainability. The role is responsible for data analysis, reporting, stakeholder engagement and project management.
Responsibilities
Conduct environmental research and studies to assess natural resources, ecosystems, and pollution levels
Perform fieldwork, collect samples and gather data using various methods and equipment
Analyze environmental data, including air and water quality, soil composition, and biodiversity
Interpret findings to evaluate environmental impacts and identify potential risks
Prepare detailed reports documenting research findings, data analysis, and recommendations
Collaborate with organizations, government agencies and communities to promote eco‑friendly practices
Engage stakeholders in environmental planning, decision‑making, and public outreach
Provide education and training on environmental issues, regulations, and best practices
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and standards
Assist in obtaining environmental permits and approvals for projects
Manage environmental projects, including groundwater monitoring and Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessment
Create and update proposals for various projects, ensuring project budgets and schedules are met
Analyze reports, maps, drawings and other data to plan and design projects effectively
Prepare cost estimates, proposals, and invoices and track project deliverables to meet quality standards and client expectations
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
Previous experience in environmental research, assessments, and project management preferred
Proficiency in data analysis, GIS software and technical report writing preferred
Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (may or may not be required)
Ability to pass a background check screening
Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills
Ability to solve problems, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Knowledge of environmental regulations, best practices and safety procedures
Highly organized and able to multitask
Self‑driven and dynamic in a team environment
Good verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software
Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, send/receive email and use field data collection tools
Mathematical skills sufficient for basic calculations and units of measure
Reasoning ability to understand and perform instructions in writing, verbal, and diagram form
Ability to accurately complete field‑testing documentation and detailed figures
Ability to work weekends, holidays, overtime, overnight and travel as needed
Travel Requirements
This position requires moderate travel, up to 40% of the time, in support of business objectives and client engagements. Travel may be both scheduled and on short notice, depending on project needs. Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices. Adherence to all company safety protocols and use of PPE is required during travel and on‑site work.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Regular exposure to outside weather conditions such as precipitation, extreme cold or heat, dusty and noisy work environments. Office work requires long‑term sitting and computer work. Physical requirements may include lifting up to 10 lbs, standing and walking for long periods, driving long distances, frequent use of fingers, hands and arms for typing and phone use, bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, pushing repetitively, and speaking and hearing effectively in noisy environments.
