
Certified Surgical Technologist - Part-Time - Same Day Surgery - Atlantic Health

Responsibilities
Apply principles and practices of asepsis; perform surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving procedure.
Assemble all necessary supplies according to requirements of the patient and the surgical procedure.
Set up sterile instrument table and prepare supplies according to type of operation. Assist in draping of patient and operative area according to need.
Assist and anticipate needs of surgeon for instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies according to knowledge of procedural requirements and constant monitoring of progress.
Maintain correct count of sponges, needles, and instruments with circulating nurse and report correctness of discrepancies according to established policy and procedure.
Maintain and monitor aseptic technique at all times and institute corrective measures in the event of contamination.
Assist in care, handling and disposition of specimen according to policy.
Inspect instruments, trays and packages to ensure sterility and completeness and with no evidence of bioburden. Ensure proper functioning of instruments before use.
Correctly receive and label solutions and medications on the sterile field. Verify all solutions and medications with RN team member.
Participate in Universal Protocol; sign in, time out and sign out per policy.
Participate in Fire Risk Assessment. Ensure fire safety measures are met and communicated.
Demonstrate and understand use of all equipment in the patient care areas. Communicate malfunctioning equipment or instruments immediately and request equipment be removed and sequestered appropriately until further investigation.
Maintain sharps safety measures in handling, transfer and disposal. Direct all team members in safe handling measures within the sterile field.
Maintain organized sterile back table. Follow point of use instrument cleaning standards. Use pre‑cleansing solution on all instruments before delivering to SPD decontamination area.
Assist with cleanup in OR as necessary.
Maintain safety measures at all times.
Maintain a good professional working relationship with all team members.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education and organization and unit mandates. Achieve and maintain professional ST certification as required.
Contribute to team efforts and high quality, safe patient outcomes through collaboration with peers, supervisors, surgeons, and anesthesiologists. Promote all PRIDE values.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Associate's degree in Surgical Technology or related field preferred.
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program required.
Certification through NCCT or NBSTSA required.
1-2 years of experience as a Scrub Tech in a Hospital Setting preferred.
BLS required.
Competencies
