
Safety Specialist

Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with SHE training, deliver sessions as needed, and actively support the site Emergency Response Team.
Enforce adherence to programs such as Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Industrial Hygiene, Working at Heights, and Emergency Response.
Promote Behavior-Based Safety, monitor participation, report key SHE metrics, and conduct recurring compliance inspections.
Perform daily inspections, assess hazards for new/modified operations, investigate incidents, support root cause analysis, and develop CAPAs.
Issue safe work permits, train and monitor contractors, support waste management documentation, and collaborate with teams to maintain safety and housekeeping standards.
Requirements
Familiarity with NYS DEC, OSHA, and EPA requirements; experienced in incident investigation, risk assessment, and corrective action planning.
Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills; able to prioritize multiple tasks and drive them to completion independently.
Proven ability to collaborate across functions and with external stakeholders; capable of promoting a strong safety culture and accountability at all organizational levels.
Preferred certifications include EPA Hazardous Waste, DOT Hazardous Materials, OSHA (10/30-hour), and ISO (14001, 45001, 50001); experience in chemical manufacturing or industrial environments
Education
A.S. degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related physical sciences preferred.
