
Grocery/Bulk Dept Manager

Job in a Nutshell
The Grocery/Bulk Manager is responsible for the successful operation and profitability of the Grocery and Bulk Departments, including training, directing, and monitoring all department staff. Department Managers oversee their own department and must also serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) on a scheduled basis. Compensation is USD $18.00 per hour.
Responsibilities
Providing world‑class customer service as the number one priority.
Exemplifying integrity, responsibility, and excellence while adhering to all company policies.
Creating an inviting, fully shoppable grocery and bulk department.
Ordering for the departments and maintaining accurate inventory levels.
Managing margin and overall department profitability, including minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.
Ensuring all in‑stock products meet company standards.
Offering and following up on special orders.
Merchandising shelves, end‑caps, and dynamic displays.
Participating in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock.
Training and monitoring personnel, assigning tasks, and following up.
Working with other department managers to cross‑train staff to accomplish all needed tasks.
Conducting active and passive demos.
Assisting in interviewing and hiring for department needs.
Working with the store manager to address performance and/or disciplinary issues.
Opening and closing the store, including DSR and the closing cash process.
Handling register functions, backup cashiering, managing returns, addressing complaints, and covering register shifts.
Maintaining the safety and security of customers and employees.
Managing business disruptions such as loiterers, solicitation, emergency weather situations, and bathroom misuse.
Answering customer questions per company standards and policies, including nutrition support statements.
Continuously increasing product knowledge.
Using SAP and inventory management software, running and analyzing reports, emailing, and utilizing other IS programs.
Working a schedule based on store needs, which includes evenings, weekends, holidays, and mandatory meetings (40 hours per week).
Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
1–2 years of retail experience in a grocery or retail environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
1–2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
Ability to pass required food safety training courses and maintain certifications.
Ability to manage changing priorities and maintain focus on tasks.
Must obtain forklift certification.
Sense of urgency in task completion.
Excellent customer service skills.
Highly organized with great attention to detail.
Ability to take direction and follow through.
Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements
Ability to frequently lift or carry 11‑20 lbs, occasionally 21‑50 lbs, and occasionally 51‑100 lbs with a team lift; also ability to lift up to 10 lbs constantly.
Ability to frequently push or pull up to 15 lbs and occasionally 16‑100 lbs.
Occasional use of computer for data entry and mouse.
Continuous walking, standing, fine‑motor manipulation, gripping, bending, twisting, turning, and reaching for the duration of the shift.
Occasional sitting, squatting, kneeling, and climbing as needed.
Environmental Requirements
Frequent work with sharp tools, dust, fumes, and congested worksite.
Occasional work with noise, cold, heat, wet, humidity, outside, heights, and contact stress.
