Overview
Part-time Men’s and Women’s Assistant Track & Field Sprints Coach

is sought by Hawkeye Community College’s Athletics program to join from August through May (approximately 32 weeks a year). As the Assistant Track & Field Coach, you assist with the supervision and coaching of practices and competitions with an emphasis on sprinting events. You aid in directing practices, managing practice and travel schedules, and supervising team conduct during competition, travel, tournaments, and other events where the team is represented. You participate in the planning, organizing, and execution of preseason and season practices and foster a positive team atmosphere. The role requires morning, evening, and weekend hours depending on departmental needs.

Essential Job Functions

Assists in the supervision and instruction of all practices and competitions with an emphasis on sprinting events.

Assists in the administrative operations of the program, including scheduling and team travel.

Promotes positive public relations for the program.

Provides first aid in emergency situations and completes annual blood borne pathogen training and CPR certification.

Performs set-up, tear-downs, and storage of equipment.

Enforces and maintains all safety policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Track & Field / Cross Country Coach or administration.

Regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position unless otherwise approved under Hawkeye’s remote work policy.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

Two (2) years coaching and/or competing in sprinting events for Track & Field.

CPR/First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within the first 3 months of employment.

Strong commitment to high ethical standards and integrity.

Must possess a current driver’s license valid in the State of Iowa and a driving record insurable by the College’s insurer. May be able to obtain additional endorsements as needed.

Demonstrated ability to work flexible hours to include evening and weekend hours.

Demonstrated ability to travel.

Demonstrated ability to work with a wide array of students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication.

Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and video conferencing technology.

Demonstrated ability to execute organization and department policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

Associates degree or higher.

One year or more experience working with college age athletes.

One-year experience with NJCAA and ICCAC policies.

Working Conditions
It is anticipated that this position works 32 weeks a year (August through May) with an average of 20-25 hours per week. The role may require morning, evening, and weekend hours. The needs of the department vary and the percent of time devoted to each part of the job will be governed by seasonal and immediate needs of the department. It requires skills for succeeding in indoor, outdoor, and educational environments using technology. It requires good hand-eye coordination, including visual acuity to read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp. Work is performed in an educational and athletic setting. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours. Outdoor environments may be subject to inclement weather. Throughout the day, interact with students, faculty, and staff in person, by telephone, and by computer.

Employment Status
Regular, part-time 32-week position. After 1 year, potential eligibility for a choice of retirement programs—IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution) may be available.

This position has a salary of $12,360.
