Job Overview
The MIG Welder II is responsible for performing advanced MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding tasks, ensuring high-quality and precision welding on various projects. This role involves working with complex blueprints and welding specifications, troubleshooting equipment issues, and mentoring junior welders. The MIG Welder II ensures adherence to safety standards, contributes to continuous improvement in welding processes, and is flexible in working between the north and south buildings to fulfill the needs of the business. Additionally, the MIG Welder II must be capable of working in hot conditions and high temperatures.

Duties and Responsibilities

Advanced Welding Operations: Perform advanced MIG welding on a variety of metals and materials, including aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel. Weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions with high precision and quality. Set up and operate welding equipment, adjusting settings for optimal performance.

Preparation and Setup: Read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols to determine precise specifications. Prepare materials for welding, including cleaning, grinding, and accurately positioning components. Select appropriate electrodes, gas mixtures, and wire feed rates for specific projects.

Quality Control and Inspection: Inspect welds for defects and ensure compliance with stringent quality standards. Perform necessary repairs or rework on defective welds to meet quality specifications. Maintain accurate records of welding activities, inspections, and quality reports.

Equipment Maintenance and Safety: Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of welding equipment. Adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring safe storage of materials and tools.

Mentoring and Training: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior welders, assisting them in developing their skills. Conduct training sessions on advanced welding techniques and safety practices. Assist in evaluating the performance of junior welders and providing constructive feedback.

Flexibility and Mobility: Flex between the north and south buildings as required to meet the demands of the business. Adapt to changing work environments and assignments with a positive and cooperative attitude.

Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with supervisors, engineers, and other team members to achieve production goals. Communicate effectively regarding project status, challenges, and requirements. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance welding processes and efficiency.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Advanced understanding of MIG welding principles, techniques, and equipment.

Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and welding symbols.

Strong attention to detail and focus on quality.

Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.

Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to work in hot conditions and high temperatures.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a welding certification program or vocational training in welding is preferred.

Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in MIG welding or a related field.

Proven track record of high-quality welding work.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to stand for long periods and work in various positions, including bending, kneeling, and reaching.

Capability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment (up to 50 lbs) as needed.

Tolerance for working in environments with high temperatures, cold environment, noise, and potential exposure to fumes and sparks.

This position typically performed in a manufacturing setting, may be exposed to various environmental conditions.

Role may involve working independently or as part of a team, depending on the project requirements.

Work Environment
Ability to perform in a manufacturing environment that may have high noise levels, dust, chemicals, oil, and grease. Ability to work in seasonal environment that may be either hot, cold, or humid.
