PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise aquatic facility staff during absences of the Aquatic Supervisor or Aquatic Coordinator; ensure safety, customer service, operations, policy, and rule enforcement.
Determine blind spots caused by weather patterns and adjust guarding accordingly.
Report any issues or concerns to Supervisor.
Assist with training sessions for guards.
Determine guard rotation and ensure vigilant 10/20 scans.
Work with patrons on issues and incidents that arise at the pool.
Perform chemical, pump‑room, and pool checks.
Serve as first responder for first aid to patrons.
Initialize, coordinate, and progress the emergency action plan.
Supervise cleanup of body fluids and fecal accidents.
Set up and verify that supplies and equipment are available during operating hours and replenish, clean, and maintain as needed.
Assume administrative responsibility of the lifeguard manager when the manager is absent.
Assist in house audits and lifeguard vigilance tests.
Maintain the open decks and attractions in a clean and orderly fashion.
Maintain a high degree of “floor presence” to observe operations with a strong focus on safety and security.
Ensure safe and timely opening & closure of pools.
Be alert to potential accident hazards and administer first aid and CPR as required.
Ensure well‑being of guests by keeping pool areas clean, answering questions, enforcing policies, rules, and regulations of recreation locations.
Be fully qualified as a licensed StarGuard Elite lifeguard; participate in regular training, including StarGuard Lifeguard, CPR/First Aid, AED, recurring in‑service training, re‑certification, and any other required training.
Facilitate life‑guard initial and re‑certification training once instructor certification is achieved; provide facilitation for all internal audits and in‑service trainings.
Uphold general safety management responsibilities in areas and operations under control.
Ensure closing safety checklists are complete and signed.
Ensure all staffing schedules, rotations, and daily duties are in place and complete.
Monitor safety equipment inventory and ensure all are at capacity.
Conduct weekly physical inspection of all lifeguard staff issued equipment.
Attend emergency duties / drills as assigned in the pool emergency management safety plan.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Education
High School Diploma or GED
Experience
6 months of lifeguard experience
Knowledge
Pool safety and emergency action plans
Computer, internet access, and software proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Financial aspects of managing departmental budgets
Customer service principles and problem resolution
Skills
Advanced lifesaving techniques and emergency response
Customer relations
Ability to pass lifeguard certification course
Abilities
Maintain a safe environment at work sites
Visually scan pools to prevent and respond to emergency situations
Complete StarGuard Elite lifeguard training and meet swim test requirements, including swimming 50 meters freestyle or breaststroke without rest, retrieving a 10 lb weight from the deepest part of the pool (minimum 6 ft), treading water for 1 minute, and submerging and swimming at least 6 meters underwater.

Working Conditions

Indoor and outdoor operations in varying weather conditions; exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, water.
Equipment Used
Equipment related to aquatic facility operations.
Drug Testing and Background Check
All selected applicants must undergo a thorough criminal background check.
Applicants for safety‑sensitive positions required to complete a drug screening.
Employment references will be conducted on finalists.
