
Boiler Operator

Shift Availability
• 3rd shift (6pm‑6am) October–April, 1st shift (7am‑3:30pm) May–September. Must be available for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Position Summary
Operates and maintains the medium‑pressure boiler plant machinery and related equipment during the heating season. Performs general maintenance work in Physical Plant during the non‑heating season.
Essential Functions
Carry out responsibilities in support of the College’s Catholic identity, mission, and Church teachings.
Start and stop boilers as needed and transfer boilers to fuel oil when required.
Monitor pressure and temperature gauges, and water levels in sight glasses to ensure proper operation of boilers and equipment.
Perform chemical tests on boiler condensation and monitor chemical usage.
Takes meter readings as required and regularly checks for water, air, or steam leaks from pipes, pumps, and compressors.
Keep the boiler plant clean and clear assigned areas outside the boiler plant of snow, leaves, and other debris.
Assist with other maintenance work such as window screens, venetian blinds, and vacuum‑cleaner repair.
Perform general maintenance work in Physical Plant during the non‑heating season.
Support the mission and vision of the College and respect its Catholic tradition.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
Experience: Minimum of two years related experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers or mechanical maintenance activities preferred but not required.
Computer Skills: Skilled in the use of a personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite.
Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license required. Knowledge of institutional boilers and related equipment, hazards, and safety precautions necessary in a boiler plant operation. Ability to work well independently, good problem‑solving skills, solid hand/eye coordination, and ability to operate all related boiler plant instruments and tools. Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
