Job Summary
The communications system, navigation, and flight controls are just a few examples of the dozens of electrical systems that help pilots keep aircraft safely in flight. As an Avionics Mechanic in the Army National Guard, you will make sure these systems and instruments operate properly.
Through training and practice, you will learn how to perform maintenance on tactical communications-security, navigation, and flight control equipment.
Responsibilities
Perform operational and preventive checks and alignments on aircraft flight controls, stabilization systems, avionics, and controlled cryptographic equipment.
Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment using technical manuals and schematic drawings.
Inspect and maintain electrical systems including wiring, electrical connections, and repair or replacement of instruments.
Maintain common/special tools and equipment and shop and bench stock for aircraft avionics equipment.
Qualifications
Military enlistment in the Army National Guard.
Must be a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
Must be between the ages of 17 and 35.
Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards.
Must meet citizenship requirements.
Preference for mathematics and shop mechanics, ability to work as part of a team, multi‑tasking skills.
Basic electronics theory, common soldering, and systems installation practices.
