CAD Drafter

Insight Global, San Antonio, TX, United States

Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a CAD Drafter for a leading downstream / midstream energy client. This individual will support a large-scale initiative to modernize and standardize utility system drawings across multiple refinery sites. The role focuses heavily on AutoCAD drafting, data cleanup, and preparation of drawings for GIS integration. This CAD Specialist will support utility system mapping across 15 refining sites. This is a central role focused on cleaning, organizing, and standardizing CAD utility drawings so they can be reliably imported into ArcGIS Pro and used to build an Esri Utility Network. This is an excellent opportunity for a CAD professional looking to expand into GIS‑adjacent work while contributing to high‑impact infrastructure and mapping projects in an industrial environment. This person’s day to day job functions will include but not be limited to:

Responsibilities

Utility CAD cleanup and standardization

Standardize layers, linetypes, colors, naming conventions, and drawing organization to an agreed site/program standard

Standardize blocks/symbols (block naming, insertion behavior, attribute usage where applicable)

Normalize annotation and ensure consistent feature representation across drawings (points/lines/polygons as appropriate)

Drawing consolidation and system “stitching”

Combine multiple utility drawings into a single cohesive system deliverable (or a consistent deliverable set) that represents an end‑to‑end utility network

Reconcile overlaps, gaps, misalignments, and inconsistent conventions between adjacent drawings or different source packages

Cross‑site coordination (15‑site support model)

Coordinate with Designers across MPC sites to identify, collect, and confirm the right CAD sources, redlines, and supporting references for each utility system

Track intake status, follow‑ups, and open questions with site contacts to keep work moving and reduce rework

CAD deliverables for GIS ingestion

Partner with GIS/data integration resources to ensure CAD outputs align with downstream ingestion needs (clean layers, consistent blocks/symbols, logical separation of content, and clear naming)

Provide handoff notes and documentation that explain what was changed, what assumptions were made, and what issues remain unresolved

Quality assurance / quality control

Perform QA/QC checks for completeness and consistency (missing layers, duplicate/incorrect blocks, stray geometry, annotation issues, etc.)

Maintain an issues log and resolution notes to support repeatability and auditability

Efficiency and automation (as applicable)

Use batch processes and/or scripting to accelerate repetitive cleanup work when appropriate
