Opto‑Mechanical Technician
We are seeking an Opto‑Mechanical Technician to support the development and production of next‑generation National Defense High‑Energy Laser (HEL) systems. These laser weapon systems are designed to be rugged, compact, and capable of operating in the most demanding environments.
In this role, you will perform precision opto‑mechanical assembly, soldering, fiber work, and laser alignment for advanced directed‑energy programs. The position is ideal for a technician who enjoys working directly with cutting‑edge hardware and contributing to mission‑critical defense systems.
Work environment: Onsite in Longmont, CO. Hands‑on laboratory and production environment supporting aerospace & defense programs.

Responsibilities
Perform hands‑on installation, alignment, and integration of optical, electro‑optical, and mechanical subsystems for high‑energy laser systems
Execute precision opto‑mechanical assembly of laser hardware, optical mounts, enclosures, and support structures
Assemble, route, terminate, and install fiber optic components per engineering drawings and procedures
Perform electronic and electro‑optical soldering, including fine‑pitch and delicate components, to IPC or equivalent standards
Conduct laser setup, alignment, and basic functional testing during assembly and integration
Perform bonding and adhesive processes using controlled materials and documented procedures
Receive, inspect, and verify incoming components for quality, completeness, and specification compliance
Troubleshoot assembly, alignment, soldering, and integration issues, identifying root cause and supporting corrective actions
Maintain accurate documentation of build processes, inspections, rework, and non‑conformances
Support system builds designed for ruggedized, harsh‑environment operation, ensuring reliability and repeatability
Collaborate closely with engineers, technicians, and cross‑functional teams to support development, integration, and test efforts
Qualifications
Hands‑on experience with opto‑mechanical assembly of precision hardware
Experience working with laser systems, high‑energy lasers, or advanced optical systems
Soldering experience (electronic and/or electro‑optical), including fine‑detail or precision work
Familiarity with fiber optics assembly and installation
Experience working with ruggedized systems designed for challenging environments
Ability to read and follow technical drawings, work instructions, and procedures
Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality, repeatable workmanship
Effective communication and teamwork skills in a multidisciplinary technical environment
Preferred Qualifications
Aerospace or defense industry experience
Contract to Hire position based out of Longmont, CO.
Pay range: $30.00 – $43.00 per hour.
