
Medical Laboratory Technician

Perform and analyze clinical laboratory tests within scope of licensure in all laboratory disciplines by standard operating policies and procedures. Understand method principles, perform quality control, perform preventative maintenance, review, and analyze results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate of Science (AAS) degree in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Technology or Science, or Associate’s degree in Chemical or Biological Science.
Must possess current licensure as required by the state board where services will be provided. (PA: No state license issued; WV: Medical Laboratory Technician License or Trainee License; MD: No state license issued; OH: No state license issued.)
Preferred Qualifications
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by ASCP or AMT.
Experience
Experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Process and analyze samples, in a timely and orderly fashion, and meet usual and customary levels of productivity, while following procedures for accurate identification.
Set up, run, maintain, and adjust laboratory instruments according to policies and procedures.
Take appropriate action for quality control in all technical areas and follow infection control procedures for all job-related functions.
Perform phlebotomy procedures on patients as needed.
Complete forms and report findings to nurses and/or physicians.
Interact with other healthcare workers to solve problems and interpret patient lab results within the framework of medical technology.
Perform routine and basic laboratory testing within a designated area in the clinical laboratory.
Recognize testing inconsistency and take appropriate corrective action.
Maintain all patient and specimen records accurately, neatly, and legibly.
Follow hospital, state, and federal guidelines for ensuring a safe environment for workers, patients, and public.
Maintain compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures for safety, security, and infection control.
Communicate and interact with patients, families, visitors, physicians, departmental and hospital staff, and the public in a manner that demonstrates professionalism and concern for their individual needs.
Physical Requirements
Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment.
May sit for extended periods of time.
Working Environment
Work around strong or unpleasant odors.
May be exposed to agents that may cause serious disease.
Skills and Abilities
Able to multitask and handle stressful situations.
Able to communicate effectively.
Able to work well as a team with co‑workers, supervisors and all other staff/customers, including patients.
Knowledge of basic computer skills.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 hours per week.
Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt.
Shift: United States of America (Non-Exempt).
Compensation Range: based on 100% FTE; prorated for less than 100% FTE.
