Summary
The Medical Assistant II, Certified provides routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other health care team members in an outpatient clinic setting. Works under the clinical supervision of the provider for patient care activities, and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor. This position qualifies for a $7,500 commitment incentive paid out in three installments over three years.

Responsibilities

Performs rooming and/or intake process, collecting data including vital signs, height, weight, and patient reason for visit.

Collects patient and family data, including medical and social history.

Reviews current medication list, allergies and preferred pharmacy.

Assists the provider as directed during treatments, examinations and procedures.

Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.

Administers medications under the direction of a provider.

Performs tests such as EKG and eye exams under the direction of a provider.

Reviews the patient record to determine whether additional routine health screenings are required.

Ensures exam/procedure rooms contain appropriate supplies, equipment, forms and educational materials, ready for use during visit or procedure.

Provides patients with after‑visit, follow‑up, self‑care or procedural instructions and educational materials as directed.

Prepares, cleans, stocks and maintains exam and treatment rooms.

Cleans and sterilizes instruments.

Assists with patient registration, check‑in/check‑out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests, treatments, and referrals.

Answers clinic telephone calls and assists in‑basket under the direction of a provider or nurse.

Assists in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.

Additional essential responsibilities may include: precepting new medical assistant hires and externs; training other assistants in clinic procedures; assisting the physician with preventive health measures for a panel of patients; performing clinic‑based quality or safety roles such as clinic safety coordination, maintaining immunization or medication registries, and conducting required audits; managing clinic supply ordering.

Education Requirements

No formal education required as long as other position qualifications are met.

Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Medical Assistant certification by AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA is required.

Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required.

Professional Experience Requirements

At least one year of full‑time experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.

Demonstrate possession of the competencies outlined in the Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement Worksheet during application and interview.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities Requirements

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position as outlined above.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to engage positively with patients and families and to work as part of a team with staff and providers.

Ability to use a computer to document required information in the electronic medical record.
