Location: DeFuniak Springs, FL. Additional WIC satellite sites: Santa Rosa (Coastal Branch) and Paxton.
Responsibilities
Provide nutrition assessment including anthropometric and hematological data collection.
Offer nutrition and breastfeeding counseling to clients and conduct group education classes.
Assist clerical and technical support staff and collaborate with WIC program providers.
Develop and distribute county WIC nutrition education materials.
Certify participants for WIC per federal requirements and Florida Department of Health policies.
Determine nutritional/health risk through individual assessments and provide appropriate WIC food packages.
Document all activities using the SOAP method in Florida WiSE and record service codes accurately.
Provide breastfeeding support, equipment, and information; promote breastfeeding through classes and support groups.
Work in the laboratory to obtain anthropometric and hematological data, perform weight measurements, and hemoglobin tests.
Check client immunization status and input data into FL WiSE.
Participate in monitoring QI/QA activities to assure compliance with program guidelines.
Help train new staff and assist with clinic staffing as needed.
Process invoices for exempt infant formula and WIC-eligible nutrition products; lead inventory and ordering processes.
Attend meetings and serve on Walton County Health Department committees.
Perform additional duties and reports as assigned by the WIC Director.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, Food Services & Nutrition, or Home Economics with an emphasis in Nutrition.
Advanced organizational and project coordination skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong problem‑solving and re‑prioritization abilities in changing circumstances.
Accurate height, length and weight measurements and hemoglobin testing.
Knowledge of nutritional needs of pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children under five.
Basic computer skills; operate within FL WiSE for daily clinic function.
Effective communication with clients and coworkers; ability to counsel individually and conduct group education.
Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
Lifting and maneuvering ability for equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds.
Qualifications
Minimum
Bachelor’s degree in one of the specified nutrition fields.
Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred
1–3 years of WIC or clinical experience.
CPR certification within 6 months of hire.
Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) completion within two years of hire.
Bilingual skills (English and Spanish).
