Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Pediatrics Full-Time Nights
$20,000 Sign On Bonus, New Market Rates and Tuition Reimbursement
We\'re hiring a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for the Respiratory Care Services department for a Full-Time, Night shift for the University of Chicago Medicine with the Pediatric Team at our main campus in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL. Note: Our open positions will be supporting the Pediatric patient populations. We also have Student opportunities available for individuals currently enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy program.
Responsibilities
Administers respiratory care treatments, procedures, and protocols under the direct supervision of department leadership and physician for the pediatric department.
Provides patient assessment to determine cardiopulmonary status, implement appropriate patient care protocols, or to maintain/improve cardiopulmonary hemodynamic status.
Initiates and maintains emergent and non-emergent non-invasive ventilation and invasive mechanical ventilation per department policies and protocols.
Administers supplemental oxygen/medical gas therapy as prescribed; documents in EPIC electronic medical record.
Administers bronchodilators, steroids, mucolytics, etc., per order or department protocols; documents in EPIC EMR in real-time and assesses the patient during administration.
Performs bronchopulmonary hygiene, suctioning, and airway care; implements airway clearance techniques per physician order and department protocols; documents in EPIC EMR.
Initiates and maintains NIV procedures (BIPAP, CPAP, High Flow Cannula); assesses patient status and tolerance; documents in EPIC.
Initiates, maintains, and checks mechanical ventilation status; performs weaning assessments and implements weaning plans per order or ventilator protocols; documents in EPIC.
Provides ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring; documents parameters and weaning data in EPIC.
Performs Arterial Blood Gas analysis per guidelines; troubleshoots analyzers and documents results.
Provides patient transport within the facility as needed with oxygen delivery systems and ventilators.
Qualifications
Graduate of an approved and accredited Respiratory Care Program (at least two years in duration).
Diploma or Certificate of Completion and Associate’s Degree from an accredited academic body.
Demonstrates effective and accurate communication and documentation skills (verbal and written).
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by The National Board for Respiratory Care.
Licensed by The State of Illinois as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
Basic Life Support Healthcare provider certification (American Heart Association).
Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification; PALS Certification; or ACLS Certification preferred, depending upon patient care area assigned and the primary patient populations served.
