Industrial Automation Maintenance Technician (PLC Focus)
Location: Henrico, VA
Employment Type: Full Time
Schedule: Day Shift, typically 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with flexibility to support other shifts as needed
Pay Rate: $38 to $42 per hour
Position Summary
We are looking for a skilled Industrial Automation Maintenance Technician to support a fast paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for maintaining and improving automated production systems, with a strong focus on PLC controls, electrical systems, and equipment reliability. This position plays a key role in minimizing downtime and supporting ongoing process improvements.
Core Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and maintain PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, sensors, vision systems, and encoders
Update and modify PLC and HMI programs using platforms such as Allen Bradley or Siemens
Configure and support industrial communication networks including Ethernet IP, Modbus, and IO Link
Work with safety control systems to ensure proper machine and personnel protection
Read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings to perform system updates and repairs
Assist with installation, startup, and optimization of automated equipment
Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reliability
Follow lockout tagout procedures and maintain a safe work environment
Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve issues and improve operations
Maintain clear documentation of maintenance activities and system changes
Required Qualifications
Associate degree or technical certification in electrical, controls, or related field
At least 3 years of hands on experience in a manufacturing or production setting
Electrical certification such as a Journeyman license or equivalent experience
Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC and HMI systems
Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including work with 480 volt systems
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols and automation systems
Solid problem solving and analytical skills
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and with a team
Understanding of workplace safety standards and procedures
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or related discipline
Background in regulated or high volume manufacturing environments
Experience with continuous improvement or lean manufacturing practices
Exposure to high speed production or packaging equipment
