Personal Care Aide – Job Summary

The Personal Care Aide supports individuals in their homes or care settings by providing non-medical assistance with activities of daily living. These services are offered to clients who may need extra help due to aging, illness, disability, or other health-related conditions. Responsibilities may include assistance with daily personal tasks, light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, transportation, companionship, and respite care. Personal Care Aides are expected to deliver services with compassion, dignity, and respect, while following all CareBuilders at Home policies and applicable state regulations. This position reports directly to the Owner/Manager and the assigned Supervisor.

Education

High School, GED or equivalent

Personal care (service) course and training meeting state requirement

State registration or certification as required by state law.

Experience

Six months of experience as a personal care aide in the last 3 years or similar experience.

Credentials

Initial tuberculosis test showing non‑infectivity. Annual tuberculosis screening.

Drug screening

Background check

Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance if driving clients or if driving on behalf of clients as part of work duties.

Working Conditions
Possible exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities

Adheres to all CareBuilders at Home policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Carries out services in accordance with the client’s individualized service plan.

Monitors the home environment to help maintain a safe and secure setting for the client.

Assists with light household tasks such as meal preparation, basic cooking, cleaning, and laundry.

Supports clients with errands and activities outside the home, including shopping and appointments, when outlined in the service plan.

Offers companionship and engagement, including meaningful conversation, social interaction, emotional support, and encouragement of reading, writing, and other mentally stimulating activities.

Provides assistance with activities of daily living, personal care, and other approved tasks listed in the service plan, including medication reminders as permitted by applicable state regulations.

Accurately completes service documentation for each visit, including services performed, dates, time in and out, and verification that care was delivered.

Notifies the supervisor promptly if assigned tasks cannot be completed or if there are changes in the client’s condition or needs outside the service plan.

Reports incidents, injuries, emergencies, or unexpected events to the agency supervisor in a timely manner.

Maintains communication with other members of the home care team involved in the client’s care.

Follows agency infection control standards, including proper hand hygiene practices.

Performs additional duties as assigned, provided they fall within the scope of approved agency services.
