
NYS Licensed Optician

We are seeking a independent and hardworking Licensed Optician to join our eye care team. The Licensed Optician plays a key role in delivering an exceptional patient experience while supporting the growth and success of our in-house optical shop. This position combines technical expertise, retail sales, and business development, requiring a proactive individual who can independently manage daily optical operations while contributing to marketing, outreach, and overall shop performance.
Job Responsibilities
Provide outstanding customer service and guide patients in selecting eyewear based on prescription, lifestyle, and budget
Accurately measure, fit, and adjust eyewear to ensure optimal vision and comfort
Manage the full dispensing process, including order entry, tracking, troubleshooting, and follow-up
Perform frame adjustments, repairs, and patient education on eyewear care and maintenance
Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing optical retail space
Utilize optical management systems for ordering, inventory, reporting, and patient communication
Monitor and report on sales performance, identifying opportunities to improve revenue and patient capture rate
Support the growth of the optical shop through marketing initiatives, promotions, and in-office merchandising
Conduct outreach and build relationships with local businesses, medical offices, and community organizations to drive awareness and referrals
Partner with our optical management vendor, OnSight, to support operations, training, and implementation of best practices
Assist in developing and implementing workflows, processes, and best practices as the optical shop continues to grow
May provide guidance, training, and oversight to an optical apprentice as the department expands
Complete daily operational tasks, including opening/closing procedures and preparation for the next business day
Stay current on eyewear trends, lens technology, and industry best practices
Support overall practice operations and perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Required Licensure
Required
Completion of a 2-year ophthalmic dispensing program approved by the New York State Education Department or an approved 2-year apprenticeship program
Strong customer service and sales skills with a patient-focused approach
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and contribute to business growth
Preferred
At least 1–2 years of experience as a Licensed Optician or in an optical setting preferred
Experience with optical software and retail operations
