
Pharmacy Technician

Responsibilities
Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies and procedures.
Assist in performing other Pharmacy Department duties, including using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and entering correct patient information.
Coach pharmacy technicians and cashier staff in the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers (if PTCB or ExCPT certified).
Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, engaging customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance, resolving issues, and answering questions.
Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers and share customer service best practices with team members.
Under the supervision of the pharmacist, review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct, report prescription errors immediately, and adhere to policies regarding drug dispensing and quality improvement.
Be responsible for registering all sales on the assigned cash register, collecting and handling cash as required, and taking customers to the OTC aisle when possible.
Handle telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians.
Process manual claims for third-party prescription services in a timely and efficient manner, and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
Support inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals, and file claims for overages, shortages, or damaged goods.
Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collection and labeling of blood/urine samples, and coordinate care within Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
Assist the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in building relationships with local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and health care providers.
Assist with exterior and interior maintenance to ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
Maintain respectful relationships with coworkers, comply with all company policies and procedures, and complete special assignments as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
Earn and maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated training program or state required certification/registration, as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
Attend training and complete PPLs requested by the Manager and acquire continuing education credits, maintaining knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy.
Basic Qualifications
Fluent reading, writing, and speaking in English. (Except in Puerto Rico)
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
Prefer good computer skills.
Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
Prefer PTCB or ExCPT certification.
