Job Summary
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) serves as caregiver to the patient during the scheduled work period. The PCT provides patient-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Responsibilities include recording vital statistics, administering basic health care and medical treatments, providing assistance with dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, meal preparation, emotional and spiritual support, laundry, cleaning patient living areas or treatment rooms, collecting non-invasive biological specimens, preparing and cleaning medical equipment, disposing of biomedical waste, and performing clerical work related to scheduling and documenting patient healthcare. Strong communication, customer service, multi-tasking, and organizational skills are required daily. When necessary for safe provision of care, the employee will provide one-on-one care to patients.
Qualifications
High school graduate or GED (preferred but not required).
Knowledge of healthcare, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and medical equipment/supplies preferred.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred; must obtain and maintain required department-specific competencies and certifications.
If working in North Dakota (ND) and not a Certified Nursing Assistant, must be on the ND Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry within four months of initial employment.
