Varies across your county; oversees inspections throughout numerous counties including Allen, Ballard, Barren, Butler, Caldwell, Calloway, Carlisle, Christian, Crittenden, Daviess, Edmonson, Fulton, Graves, Grayson, Hancock, Henderson, Hickman, Hopkins, Livingston, Logan, Lyon, McCracken, McLean, Marshall, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Simpson, Todd, Trigg, Union, Warren, and Webster. Telecommuting may be authorized at the agency’s discretion.
Responsibilities & Duties
Conduct licensure, certification, and re-licensure inspections as part of a survey team.
Investigate complaints of regulatory violations in healthcare facilities.
Create comprehensive written correspondence (e.g., Statement of Deficiencies) using software applications, detailing findings of non‑compliance and information gathered.
Determine compliance through interpretation of regulations and follow Division or Regional guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Provide technical assistance and interpretation to staff and providers.
Participate in meetings, conferences, webinars, and training to improve knowledge and skills related to healthcare regulation.
Study for and obtain the federal Surveyors Minimum Qualification Test (SMQT) certification from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully.
Flexible with work schedules, assignments, and overtime needs.
Registered Nurse with a current, active Kentucky nursing license and healthcare field experience.
Excellent writing and speaking skills.
Proficiency with computers, tablets, and smartphones for daily tasks.
Physical ability and energy to traverse large healthcare facilities during surveys and inspections.
Preferred: SMQT Certified.
Ability to work mandatory overtime, weekend shifts, and travel with overnight stays when required.
Minimum Requirements
Four years of experience as a Registered Nurse or a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Must be licensed in Kentucky as a registered nurse or hold a valid Kentucky Board of Nursing work permit.
Maintain any required licensure, certification, or credential for the length of employment.
Working Conditions
Work primarily involves external contacts with providers and clients, including home and neighborhood visits in at‑risk communities for violence and drug abuse.
Probationary Period
6 months initial and promotional probationary period, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
