Position Overview
Dudek is seeking a full‑time experienced Biologist to join our biological resources team in Southern California. The role blends field data collection, project management, technical writing, and staff mentorship across a mix of remote and on‑site projects.

How You'll Make an Impact
You’ll grow Dudek’s biological resources practice locally, manage and implement projects involving botanical and wildlife surveys, aquatic delineations, and sensitive resource assessments, and support clients from our Southern and Northern California offices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in large‑scale or lead small‑scale collection of detailed field data, working in remote locations, including aquatic resource delineations.
Identify California flora to species and subspecies or varieties.
Lead or assist field surveys for rare, threatened, and endangered plants and wildlife.
Conduct vegetative and invasive plant surveys, habitat assessments.
Manage small‑scale biological resource projects and oversee larger multidisciplinary projects (scheduling, budgeting, client coordination, quality control).
Prepare reports summarizing methodologies, survey results, and recommendations under senior staff supervision.
Support environmental permit applications and CEQA/NEPA biological evaluations.
Mentor junior staff and help build technical skills.
Work independently and as part of a team to complete tasks on time and within budget.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, botany, environmental science, or a related natural resources field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in biological resources consulting or equivalent regulatory agency experience, with increasing responsibility.
Proven experience managing biological tasks or projects, including client communication, deliverable oversight, and team coordination.
Knowledge of special‑status plant species, vegetation communities, and sensitive vegetation resources in Southern California.
Familiarity with state and federal statutes and permitting requirements (Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Acts, Porter‑Cologne Water Quality Control Act, Fish and Game Code).
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Willingness to travel, including overnight stays.
Valid driver’s license and active personal automobile liability insurance by day one of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in biology, ecology, botany, environmental science, or related field.
Experience managing projects involving biological impact analyses, special‑status species, and mitigation planning in Southern California.
Proficiency in wildlife identification and impact evaluation throughout California.
Customer‑service emphasis and solution‑oriented project delivery approach.
Detail‑oriented with demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
Good judgment and sound decision‑making skills.
Experience with handheld GPS units (e.g., Garmin) and advanced mapping tools such as ESRI FieldMaps, Survey123, and Collector.
Possession or pursuit of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Section 10(a)(1)(A) recovery survey permits or CDFW Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)/Scientific Collecting Permits (SCPs) for relevant species.
Possession or pursuit of a CDFW Plant Voucher Collecting Permit for state‑listed rare, threatened, endangered, or candidate plant species.
Compensation
Annual salary range: $80,000–$90,000, based on experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location. Successful candidates must pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check.
Working Conditions
Routine office or remote work using computers, phones, printers, etc.
Occasional project site visits outdoors, which may involve noise, uneven surfaces, extreme weather, and vehicles.
Physical Requirements
Work on a computer and sit or stand for long periods.
Capable of bending, squatting, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 35 lb unassisted (50 lb in a team lift).
Attend meetings in person and virtually, and interact with government agencies, the public, and peers.
Adequate vision (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus adjustment).
Outdoor activity may require extensive trekking over uneven terrain in extreme weather for long periods.
