Position Overview
Responsible for operating the dredge efficiently and effectively to always maximize production while maintaining a safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties And Functions)

Operate dredge to excavate sand and gravel from lake bottom.

Conduct a complete pre- and post-shift safety inspection, ensuring all systems are functioning properly.

Monitor density and flow meters to maintain maximum feed rate to the processing plant.

Constant monitoring of controls, gauges, and depth meters to ensure optimal dredge operation.

Visually monitor production area for changes in material quality.

Maintain dredge availability to meet or exceed planned efficiency goals.

Perform high levels of maintenance and servicing on dredge with little assistance.

Raises and lowers the suction ladder of the dredge with electric or hydraulic hoist.

Changes the location of the dredge in the lake with hydraulic or mechanical cable winches.

Operates a work boat to and from the dredge.

Communicate with plant operators when changes in feed rate or product quality occur.

Communicate with plant management on all safety and maintenance needs.

Other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience

High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required and two years of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Requirements

Must be 18 years in age or older.

Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Report to work dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.

Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.

Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: safety vest, safety (hard toe) shoes, and safety glasses.

Knowledge / Skill Requirements

Ability to follow written and oral instructions and complete necessary paperwork.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Ability to operate power and hand tools and motorized equipment and vehicles.

Ability to detect minor mechanical defects and perform minor repairs.

Ability to operate a computer and software applications.

Ability to be self-sufficient and perform tasks and duties without immediate supervision.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other employees and managers.

Physical Requirements

Employee is regularly required to sit, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.

Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.

Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch, and talk.

Employee will be frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

May require sitting for extended periods of time.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, typical seasonal cold and heat temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
