Job Summary

This entry-level chemist position is within the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH), performing duties under the general supervision of the PFAS and Emergent Contaminants Supervisor. The role includes accredited PFAS testing in environmental matrices and the preparation and analysis of environmental samples for per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Tissue, Wastewater, Soil/Sediment, Water, and more.
Key Responsibilities

Verify test result validity and complete regulatory compliance activities.
Prepare, develop, and conduct chemical research experiments and analysis of specimens employing quality control and quality assurance practices.
Participate in the rough grinding process of whole fish, including scaling, filleting, and grinding a homogeneous portion for analysis.
Utilize, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and information management systems to meet unit objectives in alignment with strategic initiatives.
Utilize assigned analytical methods-based quality requirements to verify test result validity and meet regulatory compliance.
Prepare, review, verify, and report test result data.
Required Qualifications

0-2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.
Physical requirement: lifting up to 30 pounds and standing for extended periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications

1 or more years of analytical laboratory experience.
1 or more years of experience with LC-MS/MS.
Education

Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Chemistry or a related field (e.g., Environmental Science, Biology, etc.) is required. An official transcript showing conferred degree (or a certified evaluation for foreign degrees) will be required as a condition of employment.
Compensation

$52,000 per year minimum (depending on qualifications).
