Overview
Sign‑on Bonus Available! Relocation bonus available for 1yr+ experience and >50mi. Assist the Cardiologists in performing invasive and diagnostic/interventional cardiac/vascular and electrophysiologic procedures; provide technical hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation using automated techniques; deliver patient care and handle additional duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider – American Heart Association (AHA)
Licensed Radiologic Technologist – Radiography – Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year – American Heart Association (AHA)
Registered in Radiography (R) – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Certificate of Completion: Radiologic Technology (Required)
Responsibilities
Assist cardiologists in performing invasive coronary/vascular/EP diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures using a specific technique; set up and operate electrical/imaging equipment and computers.
Apply knowledge of hemodynamic concepts, cardiac anatomy and physiology, and the purpose and operation of equipment and supplies in cardiac/vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
Competently administer moderate sedation in accordance with policy protocols.
Apply EP concepts and theory, including fluoroscopic anatomy and physiology, during diagnostic and interventional EP procedures.
Demonstrate good judgment and problem‑solving skills; organize and prioritize performance based on procedural findings.
Recognize and assist in treating complications arising from cardiac/vascular/EP diagnostic and interventional procedures.
Advocate for patients’ needs; communicate effectively and educate patients during procedures to reduce anxiety.
Set up sterile table with appropriate supplies specific to each procedure; prepare and drape patients correctly.
Use and understand supplies specific to cardiac/vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures; connect to physiologic monitoring equipment, ensure radiation safety and imaging equipment function.
Interpret EKG and recognize arrhythmias with advanced knowledge; interpret hemodynamic and procedural outcomes; operate monophasic and biphasic defibrillators.
Collaborate with research personnel to conduct laboratory‑based research; contribute to data collection, analysis, and process improvement.
Maintain communication and professional interaction with physicians, nurses, and other health‑care team members to achieve patient safety and outcome goals.
Encourage and mentor team members; interact professionally with vendors to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes.
Update knowledge and skills as equipment changes; evaluate equipment daily for performance and safety.
Manage digital archiving system and safely store patient images and reports; report and troubleshoot equipment or supply malfunctions promptly.
Query archived images from deep storage and create media for patient information transmission.
Provide care to patients undergoing coronary invasive procedures in the Cath Lab; report significant observations and document care per guidelines, policies, and standards.
Maintain aseptic technique; proficiency in setting up all procedures, passing sterile guidewires and catheters, and preparing the sterile field.
Detect deviations from aseptic technique by others and correct them; document observations and care.
Accurately interpret EKG and alert physicians of irregular activity; document procedures including catheter use, patient care, medication, and complications.
Select catheters that enable complete diagnosis for cardiologists.
Record, interpret, and calculate relevant procedural data; participate in performance improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives.
Achieve continuing education points to maintain active licensure; continue education specific to cardiac/vascular disease and physiology.
Ensure care aligns with evidence‑based practices, national patient safety goals, and quality initiatives.
Work interdisciplinary to identify improvement opportunities for patient and family satisfaction.
Promote and achieve customer satisfaction; lead unit-based councils and service excellence standards.
Identify unit practice problems; implement literature‑based changes and conduct audits and data collection.
Provide follow‑up and feedback to management about problem solving and incident reports.
Attend departmental education and staff meetings; share knowledge with new orientees.
Perform daily QI checks on equipment; complete charging/coding worksheets for each patient to ensure accurate billing and revenue reimbursement.
Select and apply appropriate charge sheets and codes per procedures performed; validate charges with clinical cardiac coder; attend yearly education regarding CPT code updates.
Maintain a charge/code error or missed charge rate of less than 3% of total charges monthly and annually.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $31.32 per hour – $53.87 per hour. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will depend on a variety of factors including experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
