Job Summary

A Wastewater Operations Technician II Sanitary operates and maintains equipment in a wastewater treatment plant. This position involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. The work requires rotating shifts including evening, night, weekend, holiday, and callback hours as required or for emergencies. Work is performed in a wastewater treatment plant with exposure to chemicals, bacteria, odors, and weather extremes. The job requires moderate physical exertion.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED.
AND
Experience:

Three years of experience in operation, maintenance and minor repair of equipment in a wastewater treatment plant; or completion of the City’s wastewater apprenticeship program.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:

A valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver’s license or equivalent and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.

PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Note:

You must upload a copy of your valid driver’s license with the application at time of applying. Employees must hold and maintain a valid Temporary State of Maryland Operator’s Class A and Class 5 Wastewater Collections Certificate throughout employment.
Note:

No further testing is required at the completion of the City’s wastewater apprenticeship program.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and minor repair of mechanical and electrical equipment at a wastewater treatment plant.
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
Knowledge of testing water samples and making equipment adjustments.
Ability to read gauges and meters.
Ability to perform arithmetical computations.
Ability to complete records.
Additional Information

Background Check:

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust must complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint.
Probation:

All selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
Eligibility:

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise for at least six months. The Director of Human Resources determines minimum qualifications.
Education Accreditation:

Education must be from an accredited institution. Foreign credentials must be evaluated for US equivalency. See www.naces.org for information.
Selection Process:

All candidates indicating minimum qualifications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. Training and experience will be evaluated for appropriateness. Provide complete and accurate information on the application.
Examination Process:

Applicants may be asked to complete supplemental questions. The examination will consider education, training and experience as presented on the application.
