Capital Camps & Retreat Center (CCRC), a non-profit Jewish camping and retreat organization, is seeking a full-time Development Associate.

Capital Camps & Retreat Center (CCRC) provides enriching summer overnight camp experiences and year‑round retreat programs for children, families, and organizations, primarily serving the mid‑Atlantic region. The agency’s administrative offices are located in Rockville, Maryland, with its camp and retreat center situated in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.

Founded in 1987, Capital Camps & Retreat Center has experienced steady growth over the years and operates on a renovated, expansive campus in the Catoctin Mountains. In addition to its summer camp programs, the Retreat Center serves as a hub for learning, connection, and rejuvenation for adults, families, and organizations. In the past year alone, the Retreat Center hosted 3,445 participants through a range of local and national retreat programs, further extending the organization’s impact beyond the summer months.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Capital Camps & Retreat Center (CCRC) seeks a detail‑oriented and collaborative Development Associate to lead fundraising, lay leadership engagement, development operations, and alumni engagement efforts. The Development Associate works in close partnership with the Director of Campaign Strategy & Philanthropy and the CEO to strengthen CCRC’s development operations, donor stewardship, and systems for securing and growing philanthropic support. This role plays a critical part in building and sustaining a positive culture of philanthropy and engagement across the CCRC community.

The Development Associate ensures that the systems, data, and processes behind fundraising work smoothly and accurately, enabling the organization to build strong relationships with donors, alumni, and families. By supporting effective stewardship, clear reporting, and coordinated outreach, the Development Associate helps turn strategic priorities into executed fundraising efforts, ensuring that philanthropic support is translated into meaningful programs, scholarships, and camp experiences that strengthen Jewish life and community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Development Operations & Data Management

Manage and maintain CCRC’s development database (Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge), including constituent records, gift entry, acknowledgements, and data integrity

Enter and reconcile gifts, pledges, and donations in coordination with the finance team

Prepare and manage donor mailings, email lists, acknowledgements, and receipting

Produce regular and ad hoc fundraising reports

Lead the donor acknowledgement and receipting process, ensuring timely, accurate, and personalized acknowledgements that reflect CCRC’s voice and values

Donor Engagement & Annual Campaign Support

Support the planning and execution of CCRC’s Annual Campaign, including segmentation, tracking, and reporting

Work with the Director of Campaign Strategy & Philanthropy and CEO to build and manage a portfolio of parents, alumni, and community members for stewardship and solicitation

Assist with cultivation and stewardship outreach efforts across multiple donor constituencies

Support peer‑to‑peer fundraising and volunteer‑led outreach initiatives

Communications & Alumni Engagement

Partner with the marketing team to ensure a consistent voice and messaging across donor‑facing e‑communications and social media, including drafting content, selecting images, and managing outreach cadence

Support alumni engagement through consistent communication, events, and targeted solicitations

Assist with donor and alumni events, including planning, logistics, and follow‑up

Grants & Special Projects

Support grant research, writing, reporting, and proposal preparation

Assist with planning and coordinating summer camp visits for donors and prospects

Contribute to special projects that strengthen CCRC’s culture of philanthropy and engagement

Carry out additional responsibilities as needed to support the development function and broader organizational goals

Compensation
$45,000 – $50,000

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required

2‑3 years of experience in development, fundraising, or a related nonprofit role

Highly detail‑oriented, organized, and reliable, with strong follow‑through

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Strong data management and analytical skills

Proficiency with databases and Microsoft Office; Raiser’s Edge strongly preferred

Experience using design platforms such as Canva preferred

Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond efficiently to changing needs

Interest in growing professionally within a collaborative development team

Familiarity with Jewish culture, traditions, and community strongly preferred

Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for programs and events

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

On‑site presence at camp in Waynesboro PA approximately 2‑3 days per week during the summer, with flexibility to increase based on interest and availability

From September through May, the position is based Monday through Friday in the North Bethesda office

Reports to Director of Campaign Strategy & Philanthropy

Compensation: $45,000 – $50,000, commensurate with experience
