Base Wage: $22.51 to $31.83 per hour

The Medical Receptionist Lead is responsible for working closely with the reception staff to ensure optimal patient and information flow. Provides customer service to patients in person or by telephone. Schedules appointments and collects required information and patient copays. Monitors patient arrival and wait times, communicating delays and suggesting options as needed. Assists with insurance and account questions as required. Coordinates referrals for medical care. The Lead is responsible for the direction and coordination of personnel during a shift however, does not confer supervisory status to hire, terminate employment or discipline. Works effectively and cooperatively within the workplace. Location/Department specific tasks and competencies may apply.
Essential Functions

Provide direction to and coordination of personnel during assigned shift.
Responsible for the effective orientation and training of new and current team members.
Review, complete and/or redirect daily charge, registration, referral and orders work queues.
Provide accuracy and compliance monitoring of front desk processes.
Perform all frontline patient interaction.
As the first point of contact, schedule, cancel and reschedule appointments according to practice guidelines, consistently capturing essential information.
Facilitate appointment reminders.
Monitor patient arrival and wait times, communicating delays and suggesting options as needed.
Obtain patient registration information according to practice guidelines in an accurate manner.
Maintain patient information in an accurate and timely manner.
Verify insurance eligibility, benefits and contractual agreements according to practice guidelines.
Complete referral authorization and/or surgery pre-authorization processes in a timely manner.
Facilitate the resolution of insurance, benefit or contractual obligation issues.
Review of cash drawer at the end of day in to ensure accuracy and provide feedback and training as necessary.
Sort fax server in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with established guidelines.
Maintain ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department specific software applications to perform work.
Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace.
Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities.
Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner.
Collaborate with other departments, teams and/or committees.
Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings.
Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures.
Must maintain availability to float to other departments/locations as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.
Education

High School graduate or GED required.
Experience/Training

Minimum one (1) year healthcare experience required. Prior knowledge of referrals and insurance authorizations preferred.
License/Certifications

None required.
Other Skills

Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications to perform work. Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills required. Must be able to effectively prioritize workload amongst frequent interruptions with competing priorities. Superior customer services skills required. Must be proficient with an EMR. Must possess the ability to grasp new programs and concepts quickly. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred. Ability to coordinate work schedule with requirements of position (may include overtime and weekend work).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; when working in office. Repetitive tasks such as typing, sitting, answering phones, and interacting with computers and computer systems most of the day is a function of the position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. This position requires working in an indoor, environmentally controlled environment when in the office.
