
Estimator – Pasadena, TX

Turner Industries Group is looking to hire an Estimator for our CapEx team. This position is based out of our regional office in Pasadena, TX. The Estimator has the responsibility to develop accurate industrial project estimates and prepare proposal submittal documents.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Must have 5 to 7 years of estimating experience with Petrochemical and Refining projects.
Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications to include Civil, Structural, Piping, and Process Equipment setting and assembly. Perform detail take-offs for work hours and crew loading on the project scope.
Competently performs all aspects of developing a preliminary or definitive estimate for any size project utilizing company owned software/spreadsheets.
Create proposal documents which are accurate and include all deliverables requested by the client.
Revises estimates when scope of project changes or other new information becomes available.
Participate in financial and pricing reviews with executive leadership.
Attend bid meetings and site visits. Develop a work scope, deliverables, responsibility matrix, terms/conditions, etc. Send pertinent information to appropriate divisional manager(s), Contracts, Safety, QC, and Commercial department.
Job Requirements
Strong knowledge of piping, fixed and rotating equipment setting and assembly, foundations/concrete/forms, structural (pipe racks and main framework).
Ability to compile material and labor take-offs and solicit/evaluate pricing/delivery from vendors and suppliers.
Understands the company’s industry, current trends, basic product capabilities, core values and markets.
Ability to interact with customers, vendors and inter-company personnel on a professional level.
Understanding of contractual language.
Ability to work in a group environment and willingness to share knowledge and mentor other estimators.
Can manage multiple tasks, projects and priorities in a logical, methodical manner.
Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability and knowledge to review completed bids for accuracy in pricing, resources, equipment, subcontractors, safety considerations, schedule, quality and profits on a competitive basis.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
Strong work ethic – Willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
The ability to travel for bid meetings and site visits (normally 1 to 2 days).
High School or equivalent education.
Willingness to work in an office environment on a 40-hour per week work schedule.
Ability to work independently to meet deadlines.
Strong ability to work in Excel.
Physical Demands
Physical ability to perform routine audits/visits of shop floor activities. Physical ability to perform bid informational job/site walks along with ability to climb ladders and stairs when required inside of industrial Oil/Chemical or Power facilities. Additionally, may be asked to meet following physical demands: standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and/or reaching.
Work Environment
Working conditions infrequently involve some physical exertion, exposure to the elements or hazards inherent in the job which may include routine travel. Work is primarily sedentary; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
