Position Overview
The Automation Engineer, DSM Upstream, will provide support to the Drug Substance Manufacturing (DSM) facility using DeltaV. This includes implementing changes to the Automation systems, updating design documents, executing tests, troubleshooting events, and providing automation on-call support. This role focuses on supporting the delivery of DeltaV logic for Upstream process areas, including Inoculum Lab, Media Preparation, Seed Culture, Large Scale Bioreactors, and Harvest.

Job Description
What You’ll Do
Perform Automation activities, such as code configuration, document development, and test execution using DeltaV
Deliver accurate and on-time Automation work
Create standard code utilizing simple control strategies
Assist with developing (generating, reviewing, maintaining) various specification documents (e.g., user requirements specification (URS), functional specification (FS), design qualification (DQ), etc.)
Assist with developing (generating, reviewing, maintaining) various test protocols and functional testing documents (e.g., installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), etc.)
Assist with developing various test protocols and execute functional testing for documents
Serve as on-call support for Automation inquiries and troubleshooting
Collaborate with other departments, such as Manufacturing, Maintenance, and Validation
Other duties, as assigned
Knowledge and Skills
Effective communication, both written and oral
Basic problem-solving skills
Ability to present information to others
Ability to apply knowledge of Automation subject areas
Basic Requirements (per experience level)
Automation Engineer 1
High School Diploma/GED with 4 years of Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or other relevant technical experience; or
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field with no prior experience
Preferred: 1+ year of Automation experience
Automation Engineer 2
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field
2 years of Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or other relevant technical experience
DeltaV automation experience is required
Preferred: 3+ year of Automation experience
Automation Engineer 3
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field
5 years of Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or other relevant technical experience
DeltaV automation experience is required
Preferred: 6+ year of Automation experience
Automation Senior Engineer 1
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field
8 years of Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or other relevant technical experience
DeltaV automation experience is required
Preferred: Master’s degree in technical field of study relevant to Automation or Instrumentation & Controls with 6+ years of Automation experience
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to discern audible cues.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time 30 minutes
Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time 240 minutes
Ability to conduct activities using repetitive motions that include wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Ability to conduct work that includes moving objects up to 33 pounds.
