Job Summary
The Metals Team Lead serves as the technical and operational cornerstone of the Metals Laboratory, ensuring the seamless execution of complex trace metal analyses. This role is responsible for maintaining high-throughput production while upholding the rigorous quality standards essential for regulatory compliance and scientific integrity. The Lead provides critical mentorship to a team of analysts and technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement in analytical methodologies.

Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 per year

Work hours: 9 to 5

Responsibilities

Operational Oversight:

Coordinate and assign departmental workloads to optimize throughput and meet stringent client turnaround times without compromising data quality.

Technical Stewardship:

Oversee the operation, routine maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of sophisticated instrumentation, including ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and CVAA Hg systems.

Methodology & Innovation:

Collaborate with senior management to develop, validate, and refine analytical methods, expanding the laboratory's capabilities and enhancing efficiency in sample handling.

Personnel Development:

Lead and train a team of 3.5 laboratory professionals, providing technical guidance, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring all staff meet Demonstration of Capability requirements.

Quality & Compliance:

Ensure strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Chemical Hygiene Plans, and Quality Management Systems to maintain an audit-ready environment.

Resource Management:

Manage laboratory inventory and supply chains to ensure uninterrupted operation and fiscal responsibility within the department.

Qualifications
Required:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline.

Technical Expertise:

Proven experience in metals digestion and trace metal analysis utilizing ICP-OES, ICP-MS, or CVAA Hg instrumentation.

Mechanical Aptitude:

Demonstrated ability to perform hands‑on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of analytical laboratory equipment.

Leadership:

Demonstrated potential or professional experience in supervising technical personnel and managing laboratory workflows.

Communication:

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.

Preferred:

Advanced Methodology:

Direct experience in method development and validation studies.

Regulatory Knowledge:

Deep understanding of QA/QC requirements within an accredited laboratory framework (e.g., ISO 17025 or NELAP).
