Fox TV StationsFox Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. Broadcast Maintenance Engineer (Level A)

Position Summary

KTTV Fox 11 is looking for a

Level A Broadcast Maintenance Engineer

to maintain the technical integrity of our 24/7 news operation. This is a senior‑level technical role focused on the hands‑on maintenance, configuration, and troubleshooting of our

SMPTE 2110

IP infrastructure and Evertz-based control systems. The ideal candidate is a specialist who can navigate complex signal flows, manage high‑power RF systems, and ensure our production stack operates at peak performance, and provide guidance, training and support to fellow engineers on critical broadcast systems.

Core Technical Responsibilities

IP Orchestration & Routing:

Serve as the primary technician for the

Evertz Magnum Router

and

SDVN (Software Defined Video Network)

control. Manage multicast flows, IGMP snooping, and PTP timing within a SMPTE 2110 environment.

Automation & Monitoring:

Maintain

Evertz Streampro Automation

for linear/streaming playout and configure

Evertz Magnum Multiviewers , including custom UI layouts and tally integration.

Production System Support:

Provide expert‑level maintenance for the KTTV production stack:

Sony ELC

Automation and

Sony Video Switchers .

Bitcentral

(MAM/Playback) and

iNews

(NRCS).

Vinten Robotics

and

Chyron/Vizrt

Graphics.

DNF Controllers

for specialized hardware control and tallies.

Infrastructure & Documentation:

Maintain the

Evertz terminal gear

(7800/7700 frames) and EQX routing components. Update and manage all facility schematics and rack elevations using

AutoCAD LT .

RF & Transmission:

Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on

Rohde & Schwarz

high‑power transmitters, microwave (ENG/ICR/STL), and satellite uplink/downlink systems.

IT & Facilities:

Support broadcast‑centric IT, including VLAN management for media systems, VM environments, and SAN/NAS storage. Assist in the maintenance of MEP systems (HVAC/Electrical) as they relate to technical spaces.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience:

10+ years of experience in broadcast engineering within a high‑pressure news environment.

Evertz Proficiency:

Expert‑level knowledge of

Magnum ,

SDVN , and

VistaLINK .

Technical Tools:

Advanced proficiency in

AutoCAD LT

for system documentation and

DNF Controller

programming.

Standards Knowledge:

Deep understanding of SMPTE 2110/2022, NDI, AES67/Dante, and MPEG/AVC/HEVC encoding.

RF Fluency:

Practical experience with high‑power RF, exciters, and antennas.

Education:

Technical degree in Electronics, IT, or equivalent military training.

Licenses:

Must be a licensed driver in good standing for travel to remote sites.

Preferred Certifications

SMPTE 2110 Professional Certification (e.g., SMPTE ST 2110 standards training) is a significant plus.

SBE Certification

Cisco CCNA or equivalent networking credential.

Work Environment

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to support a 24/7 news operation.

Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in confined spaces or at transmitter sites as required.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $60.35 per hour. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
