
Sr. Engineer (Utilities & Systems Integration)

What you will do
In this vital role you will support Facilities & Engineering (F&E) operations at Amgen Manufacturing Limited (AML) in Juncos, Puerto Rico. This role provides engineering expertise across utilities systems, process monitoring, and systems integration, supporting reliability, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
The position supports Amgen priorities for continuous improvement through process verification, process understanding, and data‑enabled decision making. The role includes partial involvement in automation and digitalization activities, such as supporting data integration systems, process monitoring tools, and automation‑related issue resolution, in collaboration with automation teams. This position offers exposure to multiple utilities modalities, process designs, and unit operations in a highly collaborative environment.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Contribute to automation troubleshooting, communication issues between different programs, in collaboration with utilities engineers and automation teams.
Identifying abnormal process performance to identify root cause, troubleshooting, and collaborating cross-functionally to implement corrections
Support the development and implementation of digital tools and automation strategies in collaboration with cross‑functional teams
Support or provide input to custom scripts, logic, or monitoring solutions developed by automation or digital teams
Use data analytics software to review, assess, and improve process operation performance, data retrieval and reporting for utilities performance
Integrate data from process historians into dashboards and advanced monitoring platforms in collaboration with automation and IT teams
Apply statistical analysis in-order to solve processing issues and evaluate opportunities for process improvements
Provides data analysis and interpretation, and assesses impact of the data
Participates in department‑wide support efforts such as safety and compliance
Designs, monitors, or conduct strategies or projects which significantly contribute to attaining high priority goals
May develop supervisory and mentoring skills
Provide support during control system upgrades, migrations, and commissioning as needed and in partnership with automation teams
Collaborate with automation, IT, engineering, and utilities teams on cross‑functional initiatives
Interact effectively with variety of communication and working styles
Contribute to F&E digitalization initiatives and continuous improvement goals
Ensure compliance with GMP, data integrity (ALCOA), and validation requirements
Support integration between OT systems (PLC/SCADA) and IT platforms (data historians, dashboards)
Support lifecycle activities for automation systems in coordination with system owners and automation functions

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate’s Degree in Engineering
OR
Master’s degree in Engineering and 2 years of Engineering Support experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of Engineering Support experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting utilities engineering with exposure to field automation, data integration, and data analysis tools such as process historians (e.g., PI), statistical or visualization platforms (e.g., SIMCA, Spotfire, Power BI), or similar technologies.
Understanding of data structures and the different data types
Experience supporting utilities systems and collaborating on automation‑related troubleshooting activities in the field, in partnership with dedicated automation teams.
Be able to multi‑task and function in a dynamic environment
Knowledge and use of advanced statistics
Demonstrated ability to organize work, contribute to multi‑disciplinary projects, and communicate effectively with cross‑functional teams.
Strong professional skills, including verbal and written communication (including technical documentation), problem solving, collaboration, project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and leadership or mentoring capabilities.
