Dispatcher (Public Transportation)
Resource Management Systems, Inc. (RMS) is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable dispatcher to support daily operations for our public transit drivers in Staunton, Virginia. This role is responsible for coordinating driver routes, ensuring timely service delivery, and maintaining effective communication between drivers, clients, and management.
This position is a safety sensitive position and will require the ability to pass DOT required screenings. Certain positions are subject to insurance and regulatory requirements, including minimum age criteria.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate and assign trips to drivers based on scheduling and routing needs
Monitor routes in real-time and adjust assignments as needed to ensure on-time performance
Communicate with drivers regarding schedule updates, delays, and operational issues
Maintain accurate trip records, logs, and dispatch documentation
Utilize routing and dispatch systems to manage daily operations
Respond to client inquiries and resolve service concerns professionally
Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
Collaborate with operations and management to improve service efficiency
Assist with reporting, data entry, and administrative tasks as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Previous dispatch, scheduling, or logistics experience preferred
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
Basic computer proficiency (routing systems, data entry, email communication)
Ability to pass DOT drug and alcohol screening
Ability to pass criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in public transportation or NEMT operations but not required
Familiarity with routing software
Knowledge of geographic service areas and route optimization
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Primarily office-based with extended periods of sitting
Frequent use of computers, phones, and dispatch systems
Occasional high-pressure situations requiring quick decision-making
Additional Requirements:
Must complete all onboarding and training requirements
Must maintain professional communication and demeanor at all times
Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends if needed
