Service Inventory & Logistics Specialist
Shimadzu Scientific Instruments is seeking a Service Inventory & Logistics Specialist to join our team in Columbia, MD. In this role, you will support the daily movement, control, and reporting of Service inventory while helping keep critical parts and PM kits available for the field. You will work across Service Operations, Purchasing, headquarters, and regional teams to keep inventory activity organized, accurate, and responsive to business needs.
Job functions include, but are not limited to:
Support inventory processing, logistics coordination, and fulfillment activities for the Service organization
Provide direct administrative and operational support to the Service Operations Manager
Process and track inventory transactions including service parts orders, backorders, returns, and related inventory requests
Expedite or reroute FSP and SSP orders when business needs require quick action
Coordinate inventory movement tied to returned parts through RGA and RMA activity
Work closely with headquarters and Regional Service Administrators on order changes, returns, and inventory reduction requests
Communicate order and parts status to field service personnel
Maintain inventory files, transaction records, and management reports
Communicate inventory requirements to Purchasing to support ongoing service demand
Assist with physical inventory audits, cycle counts, and corporate inventory counts
Perform department phone support and other operational support tasks as needed
Education and qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent is required
Inventory-related experience is highly preferred
Experience in warehouse, shipping, receiving, logistics, or service support is a plus
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to lift and carry parts up to 50 pounds independently
Experience with FedEx, UPS, or similar shipping systems is helpful

This non-exempt, full-time position offers a starting salary range of $49,000 to $52,500 annually, paid semi-monthly. Eligible benefits include a 401K matching program and discretionary yearly contributions, with detailed information provided at the final interview stage.
In your first year, you will receive 10 paid vacation days, 8 paid personal days, 8 scheduled holidays, and 3 floating holidays. After one year, you'll have access to a generous short-term disability program, with premiums fully covered by the company. Employees are insured at 100% of their salary for the first 6 weeks and 66 2/3% for weeks 7 to 12.
As a non-exempt role, you will also be eligible for overtime and double time pay according to employee handbook guidelines. Additional variable compensation may include a discretionary year-end bonus based on overall company performance.
