
Medical Assistant Palliative Care

Job Summary and Responsibilities
Provides basic level of patient care and treatments. Assists with obtaining vital signs and documenting chief complaint and all actions taken. Alerts physician of problems, concerns or abnormalities. Assists with obtaining patient history, assists physicians and residents or licensed nursing personnel, performs simple patient procedures, sets up exam/procedure rooms including instruments for minor procedures, and may include administering medications (excluding IV) under direct supervision of a physician. Obtains lab specimens and fills out requisitions completely and accurately. Functions more independently and coordinates the workflow of medical assistants when necessary. Obtains authorization for referral (normally in small clinics). Conducts front‑desk duties such as registration, check‑in and scheduling of patients.
Maintains hospital standards of zero tolerance for mislabeled specimens and collects laboratory specimens according to hospital protocol
Assists the nurse/physician during examinations, treatments and procedures as requested
Retrieves necessary equipment and supplies
Assists in patient/equipment preparation
Performs follow‑up actions as directed
Documents clinically relevant findings in the patient's record according to hospital protocols and clinical protocols
Job Requirements
High School Graduate or GED
Certificate in Medical Assistant or completion of an accredited MA program
Completion of a US Armed Forces medical services training program
Computer program utilized for checking‑in and scheduling patients
Basic Life Support – CPR
Preferred Qualifications
Previous Medical Assistant Experience
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
Experience in a designated specialty area
Bilingual skills

Pay Range
$21.93–$28.13 per hour
