Looking for a paid internship? The Department of Revenue, Bureau of Audits, Scranton Office has a unique opportunity for students interested in the field of Accounting. This Internship provides an opportunity for students to develop career interests and goals through meaningful and productive work by assisting in conducting field audits of taxpayers to determine their compliance with applicable laws and regulations. As an Accounting Intern, you will gain real work experience and knowledge while laying the foundation for a rewarding career.
DESCRIPTION OF WORKAs an Accounting Intern, you will receive on the job training in sales and use tax, liquid fuels tax or corporate tax audit programs. You will have the opportunity to assist and work with supervisors or higher-level auditors to gain experience and develop technical knowledge, competence and skill in auditing techniques and procedures. Work includes preparing for on-site examinations by performing preliminary planning, assisting in reviewing information furnished with assignment, and researching departmental records. You can expect to contact taxpayers or their authorized representatives to schedule audits and visually inspect taxpayers' facilities to ascertain business activities and limit of operations. In addition, you will analyze financial records and pertinent books to determine correct tax liabilities and verify the accurate remittance of tax in accordance with applicable tax laws or precedent cases. This position attends formal and informal training sessions to learn tax laws, regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
You will learn to:
- Assist in the preparation of schedules, work papers, and audit forms
- Write narratives to document audit findings and explain or support audit procedures utilized
- Respond to questions from taxpayers and suggest changes in accounting procedures to report future tax liabilities and inform taxpayers of appeal rights and procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Seasonal, full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) ad hoc. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Scranton. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:
- Current enrollment as a full-time undergraduate student in an accredited college/university in a declared bachelor's degree program and successful completion of at least sixty (60) college credits at the time of hire. Full time undergraduate students who have successfully completed at least thirty (30) college credits and anticipate the completion of at least sixty (60) college credits at the time of hire may apply for this program; or
- Current enrollment as a graduate student in an accredited college/university in a declared master's or doctorate degree program at the time of hire.
Other Requirements:
- This particular position also requires current enrollment in an accounting degree program.
