Position Summary
The Department of Classics and Humanities at San Diego State University invites applications for a one‑year appointment (possibly renewable for a second year contingent upon performance and funding availability) for the Schuch Post‑Doctoral Fellowship in Classics. The Fellowship is designed to allow newly completed PhDs adequate time for research while teaching a reduced course load in classics and mentoring students. The selected fellow will engage in comprehensive research, teaching, and mentoring experience. Applicants should be prepared to teach courses in Greek and/or Latin language and literature at all undergraduate levels and to offer lecture courses in classical literature, world mythology, and culture in translation. The fellow will teach three courses each academic year, achieve significant progress on a research project, give a public presentation at the end of the year, and participate in the intellectual life of the department and campus.
Position Information
Full‑time, benefit eligible, temporary position.
12‑month appointment beginning July 1, 2026 (possibly renewable for a second year contingent upon performance and funding availability).
Position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
The individual will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Education and Experience
Must have received a Ph.D. between July 1, 2022 and June 1, 2026.
Demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups.
