DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will perform diagnostic work, preventative maintenance, and repairs on a variety of construction equipment, trucks, and automobiles. You will help ensure that all equipment remains safe, reliable, and ready for daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Service hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems.
• Work on manual and automatic transmissions.
• Conduct state inspections for assigned equipment.
• Complete accurate work orders and time records.
• Report equipment damage or incidents immediately.
• Repair and overhaul vehicles and equipment components.
• Support preventative maintenance programs and perform tune-ups and tire services.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Travel, overtime, and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed.
• This position requires possession of an Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
• This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 4 or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification within the six-month probationary period.
• This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the six-month probationary period.
• This position is required to obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the six-month probationary period.

Additional Requirement:

• Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
• You must possess a basic set of tools.
• This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
