DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Senior Center Operator 1, you will be responsible for managing the daily operations of an Adult Community Center, ensuring that programs and activities enhance the quality of life, social engagement, and well-being of older adults. This role requires organizing and scheduling a variety of social, recreational, and educational activities-including evidence-based programs-while maintaining compliance with all regulations, policies, and procedures of the Area Agency on Aging. You will also have the opportunity to participate in ongoing training to stay current with agency standards, operational procedures, and program requirements. Work involves overseeing food service functions by ordering supplies, verifying meal deliveries, ensuring dietary needs are met, and monitoring meal quality through observation and participant feedback. This also includes coordinating custodial services to maintain a clean and safe facility. Daily interaction with program participants is essential, as you will encourage involvement in activities, support social interaction, as well as resolve concerns, complaints, or interpersonal conflicts. Key responsibilities include:

  • Completing required documentation, intake forms, and reports within established timeframes
  • Conducting telephone reassurance calls, completing follow-up calls regarding participant concerns, and assisting older adults or their caregivers with completing federal, state, and local program applications
  • Performing a wide range of administrative functions
  • Recruiting, training, and directing volunteers to support meal service, facility upkeep, and Center operations when the operator is unavailable

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three months of experience in providing direct services in a human services, education or a community based setting to the aging population or to individuals from various cultures and socio-economic backgrounds or to individuals who have physical, intellectual or emotional disabilities; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
