Primary Purpose
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Under direction, directs, coordinates and performs the most complicated construction and maintenance work, including switching on overhead and underground systems including gas lines, fiber optics, telephone and CATV systems. Required to operate all equipment utilized in utility construction and maintenance, which may include a mobile crane. Required to glove primary voltage up to 25,000 volts. Hot sticks up to 34.5 kv.

Under direction, performs and is responsible for the most complicated construction and maintenance work on overhead and underground systems.
Directs and coordinates the activities of all personnel assisting him/her.
Responsible for the effective operation of assigned personnel and the safety of himself/herself, the crew, and the public.
Operates all types of heavy equipment, hot sticks and has appropriate valid license.

JOB SCOPE
An employee will be promoted to this classification after forty-eight (48) months as a Line Mechanic, upon demonstration of ability, fitness, and other qualifications. Employee must complete 1800 hours of energized primary work (single phase & three phases), including successful completion of 25kV gloving program, for progression or promotion to Journey Line Mechanic.
Minimum Qualifications
Safely and effectively completes assigned work with proper use and care of all equipment, tools, and material.
Make appropriate recommendations regarding fitness and abilities of employees under his/her direction.
Under his/her direction, oversees and verifies documentation of energized primary work of lower-classified employees.
Required to glove 25KV nominal. Hot sticks up to 34.5KV.
Reads, understands, and carries out provisions of the job orders and associated drawings and sketches.
Communicates effectively with the public in the best interest of the Company.
May be required to act as a Patrolman or Troubleman.
Performs other related or less-skilled work, as required or directed. Performs all tasks in Line Mechanic progression.
Must be able to work on all energized and de-energized Distribution voltages.
Takes necessary training for advancement to Lead Line Mechanic.
Reads, writes and communicates effectively in the English language.
After two (2) years in grade, leads a two (2) man bucket crew.
Must be willing and able to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for callout overtime.
Complete a 3-month rotation into the Trouble Department within 18 months of being promoted to Journey Line Mechanic.
