Tool Room Machinist A 2nd Shift

Position Summary
Work independently to support all departments in the plant with special tools and fixtures needed to meet customer requirements. Help troubleshoot problems using analytical methods to ensure standards and specifications are met.

Duties & Responsibilities

Set up and operate conventional, special purpose and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines to fabricate and repair metallic and nonmetallic parts.

Operate tool room mills, lathes, grinders, wire EDM machines and miscellaneous equipment to produce and repair complex tooling and dies.

Read and understand complex blueprints, sketches, drawing manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and set‑up requirements.

Program CNC machines.

Inspect and sharpen cutting tools used in the plant.

Inspect work to assure all specifications are met.

Give operating instructions.

Train, instruct, and assist trainees through the training period.

Use judgment to plan, perform and make decisions on set‑ups and operations within recognized procedures.

Proceed on work assignments with minimum supervision and assistance.

Keep the work area clean and follow 5S standards.

Work within high‑performance team guidelines (HPT).

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment. Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities, and activities presenting an unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.

Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment efficiently.

Work with groups in initiating and implementing programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5‑S projects.

Qualifications

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Associate degree or working toward a degree.

Experience with CNC machines and programming.

Physical Requirements

Physical hazards due to lifting of product assemblies and tools.

Fumes, dust, and oils.

Extended periods of standing.

Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.
