THE POSITION

We are excited to welcome a motivated Transportation Technician to assist in operating manual and electronic equipment for preliminary, right-of-way, engineering, bridge, construction, land, and property surveys. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Transportation Technician, you will learn how to operate a Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) workstation in order to process survey data into base maps to be used in the development and preparation of highway or bridge plans. You will also assist in reading highway plans to stakeout construction projects, as well as assist in setting up, operating, adjusting, and caring for various types of survey instruments. Specific duties involve establishing centerlines, measuring angles, and checking alignments of structures, in addition to staking out tangents, curve stations, and reference control points. You will also play an active role in assisting with using a level to secure ground elevations, establish benchmarks, and determine grades on roads; operate theodolites, electronic distance measuring equipment, electronic total stations, electronic data collectors, portable computers, and telecommunications equipment.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an ad-hoc, emergency basis only, subject to managerial approval. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bridgeville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
  • One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license.
